Civet
Civet is a profoundly animalic note, often described as musky, fecal, urinous, leathery, and warm. At high concentrations, it can be sharp, challenging, and intensely 'dirty' or even repulsive to some noses. However, when diluted and used skillfully, it transforms into a rich, diffusive, purring warmth that adds incredible depth, sensuality, and a 'lived-in' quality to a composition. It has an oily, dense texture in its raw form. As a base note, its intensity evolves over time, often softening from its initial sharp animalic facets into a smoother, more integrated warmth that enhances the longevity and projection of other notes, particularly florals.
