Dry Oud

The note of dry oud unfurls with a profound woody intensity, immediately conveying a sense of age and refinement. Unlike its more animalic or "wet" brethren, this iteration is stripped of overt barnyard nuances, presenting instead a parched, almost mineralic wood character. It possesses a leathery smokiness, akin to ancient, sun-baked leather or the smoldering embers of a rare, dense wood. There's an austere, even arid quality, sometimes hinting at a dry earthiness or the dust of an antique library. Its texture is often described as smooth yet rugged, like polished petrified wood. Projection is typically robust yet sophisticated, never overwhelming, gradually softening into a lingering, tenacious drydown. It functions almost exclusively as a heart or, more commonly, a base note, anchoring compositions with exceptional longevity, often persisting for many hours, sometimes even a full day, on skin and fabric.
