Indole

The note presents with a multifaceted character. In low concentrations, it manifests as a delicate, almost ethereal floral sweetness, reminiscent of jasmine, orange blossom, or tuberose. However, at higher concentrations, its character shifts dramatically, revealing fecal, medicinal, and animalic facets, with pungent and slightly decaying aspects. It can also be perceived as waxy, mothball-like, or urinous. The initial impression is often fleetingly sweet before the more challenging aspects emerge. It is commonly used as a base note, contributing depth and complexity.
