Oud from China (Hay-nan)

The note from Hay-nan is a profound olfactory journey, opening with a distinct camphoraceous and medicinal clarity, almost mentholated, yet without harshness. It quickly evolves into a deeply resinous and woody core, often described as sweet, balsamic, and remarkably clean, distinguishing it from its more animalic counterparts. There's a subtle green herbaceousness, sometimes a whisper of dried fruit or plum, and an underlying earthy richness that grounds it. Its texture is smooth, almost oily, enveloping and profound. Projection is moderate to strong, depending on quality and concentration, developing slowly and with immense complexity over hours. It is unequivocally a base note, providing exceptional longevity, often lingering for days, deepening and warming on the skin to reveal a sophisticated, woody, and slightly smoky dry-down.
